Dies
William G. Hunter, prominent
and well known Ovid township resident for 64 years, died at his home in
Lansing Sunday, February 17, 1929, in his eightieth year. Funeral
services were held Tuesday morning at Lansing and burial was made in
Ovid cemetery.
William G. Hunter was born at ____ Canada on October 25, 1849, the son
of George G. and Harriet Hunter and when eight years of age came to
Ovid township, Clinton county, where he resided until 1924 when he took
up the residence in Lansing. On November 3, 1870 he married Mary
I. Bradshaw who died in 1893. Seven children were born of the
marriage, three of them now surviving. In 1893 Mr. Hunter married
Jane Howe, of Olive township, who has been a most devoted wife and
mother and who survives him.
Mr. Hunter served in the Civil War in Co. K. 30th Michigan Infantry,
and was a charter member of George A. Winans Post No. 104, G. A. R. at
Ovid. He was the last of 23 charter members to be taken. He
was a Mason and Oddfellow for many years. Mr. Hunter was a member
of the Pilgrim Congregational church at Lansing.
Three children survive, George G. Hunter, St. Johns, Mich.; Harriet P.
Hunter, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. H. D. Potter, Lansing.
