Reuban P. Davis

Well Known Resident Passed Away
Another resident of Ovid
passed away when Reuben P. Davis died at his late home Wednesday, after
only a short illness.
Mr. Davis was born in Attica, New York, on September 12, 1847, and he
was the youngest of eight children. His father died when he was
but a small boy and he then came with his mother and brothers and
sisters to Middlebury. At the beginning of the civil war he
enlisted with his brother Samuel and his company was ordered to Moss
Creek, Tennessee. The Ninth Corps, to which he was attached, went
with Grant's army to Spottsylvania, where Mr. Davis was wounded.
Soon after this he was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps where
he stayed until July 28, 1865.
In 1870 he was united in marriage with Miss Clara Patrick of Carson
City, and since they have lived in Ovid. Two children were born
to them, one dying in infancy, but the other, Mrs. Arthur Acre of Ovid,
survives him.
Mr. Davis was one of the oldest members of the Odd Fellows and was a
regular attendant at the meetings. Besides the wife and daughter,
Mr. Davis leave a brother and a half-sister, to mourn him.
The funeral was held from the home Friday afternoon, Rev. R. J. Slee
officiating; interment was made in the Maple Grove cemetery.
